2013 Protective Style 1: Weave & Braids

Before the new year, I made the resolution to try and retain my hair length by doing more protective styles this year amongst other things. I started about a week early and had my first protective style put in on Christmas eve. It’s been three weeks and I’m planning on removing the extensions in another three. So far, I’m really enjoying it. I figured I’d share a few photos of what I’m currently rocking.

I’m loving the speed in which I get ready in the mornings and the style really saved my fro from my lazy holiday hands. The length is ideal as it’s gotten scorching hot in Jozi and it’s conveniently tangle free. I’m not going to lie, I’m getting my familiar three week itch. Especially when I’m doing research into some length retention practices for my own hair and I see other naturals photos. I just have to be patient, I know it’s ok under there 🙂

I used to do this hair style a lot when I had relaxed hair. Now that im natural I always worry that after a couple of days or as soon as it rains my natural hair will start showing more making it look untidy (seeing as not all the hair is braided in at the front). And also those ends aren't really protected. Was there some special way your hair was braided at the front (natural hair tucked in maybe?)?

Hi Mrs JK, my hairdresser did braid my hair very specifically so that my natural hair didn't show. Especially because it's actually as long as the braid itself, she had to braid it in a way to combat that. But I don't know how she did it :s. Maybe grab one of these pics and take it with you next time you want to get your hair done to show them, they might know 😉

Hi, sorry I have no idea what it's called. I threw the packet away awhile ago. This was basically re-used weave so not sure what it's called.

I honestly have no idea what they're called. I threw the packet away ages ago as I reused them for this style. Sorry!

Thanks Anonymous. I think Destiny was asking about the name of the extensions I used. Any ideas?
