Quick Update: What Fro & I Are Up To

It’s taken a little while to get back into the swing of things, and I haven’t done some of my regular posts in a bit so I just wanted to drop a quick line about that and some things that are coming up.

What’s up?: My hair’s currently in its first protective style of this year. I’m planning so that Fro makes its comeback onto the blog sometime this or next week. It’d have been five weeks with the style in and I think my holiday hands are ready for some work 🙂 When I have a protective style in, I usually use that time to do more research into what I want to do next, get inspired by different natural hair styles and generally take a second to breathe. I do a lot of reading…a lot and then come back and share what I’ve learned or come across. I’m really excited to test out what I’ve learned and seen.

This Week’s Looks: I’m planning on this section to return next
week. I don’t do these posts while my hair’s away since I like to focus
more on my natural hair and styles.

Video tutorials: As
many of you know, my camera bugged out last year, just after sharing my
6th video. It was away for awhile, then Christmas and New Year’s crept
up and by the time I got it back, my hair was about to go into
protective mode. So now that I’m unleashing Fro again, expect to see
some new videos! I’d like to start by showing you how I styled my hair
during my 30 Hair Accessories challenge so please look out for those. A
popular request is how I tie my headscarves so I’ll do several
videos/ways of how to tie a headscarf for my lovely readers out there 😉

New hair challenge: I
enjoyed my previous challenge so much that I’ve been pondering as to
what I can do next. I realised it was a great way to create content for a
‘catalogue’ of looks, because you all know how lazy and uninspired we
can get when switching things up in the hair department. These
challenges really help to get me out of a rut, increase my styling
confidence and also share with others how I do things. This time I’d
like my video tutorials to be involved from the get go. I already have a
few ideas of what I can do next but would LOVE your feedback! Got
any suggestions and fab ideas on a new hair challenge? Tweet me:
@cosmoaisha, mail me: myfroandi@gmail.com or just drop me a line in the
comments box 😉

For the newbies: I’m
planning on adding a new page where I’ll share my basic tips of being
natural. Many women (including myself) didn’t or don’t know where to
start once they’re fully natural. Others believe that the same products,
same styling tools and rules as relaxed hair apply. I’ve found that
they don’t. So I’ll be sharing quick tips for wherever you are in your
journey but it’ll mainly be for the newbies.

I’ve also
cleaned up a bit. You’ll see that there are new tabs at the top called
‘My routine’ and ‘FAQ’. I’ve added these to make it easier to see some
of the basic information up front. I’ve also updated the ‘My styles’
page with video links and new styles. The ‘Photo timeline’ page has some
useful new headers to clarify which stage of my hair journey I was when
the photos were taken. I think this will be easier for you to get
inspiration according to which month you’re in. I’ve tried a few new
products the past six months, so I’ll be updating my ‘Product reviews’

And with that, I’ll leave you with some pics I took last week.

Thanks for reading x

I love your skirt and your hair looks pretty. I am also a natural and we are actually friends on naturalsunshine. I go by Ndot ( that's my real name actually). It will be great blogging about popular misconceptions that we had when we first went natural or that people have in general about natural hair, I know I had them. When I first went natural, I thought wearing a protective style like weaves, braids was not like hiding my natural hair and that I needed to rep natural hair proud. I forced myself to wear my hair out all the time. But now almost two year natural. Protective styles are my bestfriends, especially as I moved to a city that is so dry weather wise. Protective style has been like heaven sent. But they cut down on the tip I take to get ready in the morning. At the end of the day as long as my hair is healthy underneath that protective style that is more important. I am in the process of getting another protective style installed.

Hey Ndot! Thanks for checking out my blog 🙂 There's a great idea for a post actually, I'll keep it in mind. I have touched on it throughout my blog but never really compiled it in one post. How's your hair doing with all the protective styling? Has it flourished?

Hi Aisha, I'd really love to know what you use on your skin. It's glowing!

Hi Scarlet, thanks for that 🙂 I've been using the same facial line for years and it's simply Johnson & Johnson. I use their wash, face cream and always remove my make up in the evenings with their wipes. I also make sure to drink as much water as I can and I eat a lot of veggies 😉
