Towards the beginning of the year, I had a slight panic as to how I was going to be able to commit to getting fitter with my hair routine as it was. The plan was to do gym as well as swim. Well, the swimming thing’s been put on hold for now but I have been going to the gym regularly. When I started, I was still wearing my weave/braid combo so it wasn’t on my mind as much. But what I did realise is that even though I exercise like mad and give it my all, I don’t sweat so much. And the little that I do, it’s only at my hairline. My head itself doesn’t really sweat so I figured I could actually go without having to wash my hair after every session and continue to wash it once a week. I gave this a go and so far it’s working out fine.
The first day I hit the gym without my weave in, I put 4 flat twists into my hair so that it wouldn’t be in the way and also keep it from shrinking. Worked like a charm. So this is how I’m rocking my hair to gym now:
I figured, I already prep my hair in the evenings, so why not just do that and hit gym as is? So what I do is instead of braiding chunky braids/mabutu, I put my hair into four flat twists, wrap as usual before sleeping then in the mornings I just remove my headscarf and go. It stays looking relatively neat and definitely ‘presentable’ for the gym. Throughout my workout I dab a towel on my hairline and once I’m done I spritz my hair and use a damp towel to wipe the parts that were a bit sweaty. Shower and go about my day as usual. Phew, maybe I didn’t have to stress about it after all. I’m assuming with swimming I’ll do the same so that I can wear a cap, then wash my hair right afterwards. Will come back with an update once that’s back in the picture.

Love this blog and ur hair journey coz i feel we share the same hair type n issues. I have been working out and for a while now av been thinking am not doing it right coz I do not sweat as much, al probably get a shiny film of sweat on my forehead and at the back of my knees…so i upped to 2 hrs a day…nothing! but this week, the pain! Can't even raise my face…
Heya, glad to know I'm not the only one who hardly sweats but let's consider that a benefit! I know that if I sweated more, I'd definitely have to wash my hair more often!
