My Family Photo Album by Carike Ridout

My husband and I have been living in our house for almost 4 years and it irks me that we’ve barely decorated. I always tell him that if someone were to break into our home, they’d have no idea who lives here. We have one photo up in our house. One. And it’s a manky little photo booth shot of the both of us from when we were still in uni stuck on our fridge. Not to say we don’t have a ton of gorge photos from some monumental times in our lives. We just haven’t gotten round to displaying them. It. Irks. Me. So we made a new year’s resolution to put up frames in our landing as a little gallery to capture some of our loved ones and favourite life moments with each other. We knew we had to fill these frames up with only the best of the best. The favourites of our favourites. When Kai was born, we didn’t have a newborn photography shoot and vowed we would have an entire O’Reilly klan shoot when he was a little bit older. It finally happened last month.

With this shoot being so important to us, I didn’t want to hire just anybody. I had a certain vision for our shoot and knew it had to look a bit different to our others. When I came across Carike Ridout’s photo on Instagram by chance, I knew I found the right person to capture my family. Carike Ridout is a Gauteng based photographer who takes beautiful photos of weddings, lifestyle and families. It was really important for us to have someone who’s patient and comfortable taking photos of a baby and animals and she is with both. Our shoot could’ve been much more chaotic if we had another person there. Kai was comfortable with her and she managed to get some great smiles out of him. And the dogs, despite the distraction of other dogs in the park, made it into some of the great pics.
